FIFAe launches ‘The Good Game Promise’

FIFAe
  • FIFAe Finals 2022 to become the platform to introduce and promote FIFAe’s role in society

  • Initiatives build around three pillars; healthy players, community and planet

  • Event venue - Bella Arena - one of the most sustainable arenas in Scandinavia

Committed to impacting the community and further beyond in a positive way, FIFAe will establish ‘The Good Game Promise’ - a programme to change the scene for the better. The FIFAe Finals 2022, taking place in Copenhagen in July, are the perfect platform to introduce the initiative which aims at creating a stage where anyone can unlock their full potential and to form a professional, entertaining and sustainable esports ecosystem for the entire community. This programme is championed by three core pillars: healthy players, healthy community and a healthy planet.

Healthy players:

Unlocking the full potential of the players comes with improving mental and physical health. FIFAe will provide a health training package including useful tools and exercises offered to all participating players upon arrival at the FIFAe Finals 2022. The exercises have been developed together with Tobias Powalla, Group Leader at FIFA Fit, Lars Lienhard, a neuro-athletic expert, as well as with the Institute of Movement Therapy of the German Sport University Cologne with their leading expertise in research around training and health-related behaviours of esports players. Additional input has been provided by Timo Maartense, an experienced FIFA esports coach.

Furthermore, workshops around esports performance and health topics during the industry gathering on July 29 will provide helpful guidance to participating member associations and other members of the FIFAe ecosystem. Lars Lienhard, Timo Maartense and Astralis’ Sports Director Kasper Hvidt will also provide unique insights.

Healthy community:

Activations such as a B2B panel discussion on July 29 will help to raise awareness around UNICEF Denmark’s All Right initiative - an anti-cyberbullying programme which aims to educate the esports community in children’s rights and actively work together to build a safe environment for children to help minimise online bullying, discriminating behaviour and language in their environments.

Additionally, a two-day women’s workshop will be set up at the FIFAe Finals 2022. To grow the women’s game in FIFAe, experts will provide unique insights to participating women around content, health and competition. Furthermore, discussions will take place to further understand challenges women face and empower them by building up a dedicated strategy based on the input gained during the workshop.

Healthy planet:

Finally, to host an environmentally sustainable event, FIFAe and its production partners are focussing on reducing the footprint of the competitions by using the latest technology and sustainable equipment whenever possible.

As a first step towards FIFA’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2040, FIFA will offset all flights of staff and of all participating players, clubs and nations from across the world for the entire FIFAe Finals. Additionally, the CO2 footprint of the event will be intensely evaluated in order to help reduce the emissions via dedicated activities for future competitions.

The location of the FIFAe Finals 2022 - the Bella Arena in Copenhagen - is one of the most sustainable event sites in Scandinavia. The arena is built and operated with a 360 degrees approach to sustainability and in accordance with their Responsible Hospitality strategy. Bella Arena has obtained qualification for DGNB Gold Certification, the highest certification for sustainable construction work, and is among the first to use a new building material produced by upcycled brewing kegs. This approach also includes the hotel chosen for the players’ stay whilst in Copenhagen, which was built attached to the Bella Arena, reducing CO2 emissions in travel to the event on-site.

Further initiatives based on the approach above will be launched in coming seasons. FIFAe welcomes all organisations to be part of the development by attending and contributing in the workshops or by providing their support on The Good Game Promise.
