Indonesia crowned as the first-ever champions of the AFC eAsian Cup™
After two intense days of competition, the group stage resulted in the elimination of Oman, Malaysia, and the Kyrgyz Republic
Indonesia not only earned the title of Champions of Asia but also boasted the longest winning streak and the highest average goals per match in the knockout stages.
The AFC eAsian Cup, held from 1 to 5 February, marked a significant milestone in esports, with Indonesia emerging as the inaugural champions, showcasing exceptional skill and determination. The competition, carried out through the title eFootball™ 2024, took place at Doha’s Virtuocity eSports Arena in Qatar.
Nineteen Asian nations gave their all throughout the tournament. Following the group stages, Malaysia, Qatar, and the Kyrgyz Republic were eliminated after tight competition within their groups. Additionally, Hong Kong, China, which had initially qualified, withdrew on Day 1, leaving 19 teams in the competition instead of the planned 20.
The knockout stage, played in a best-of-3 format, led to exciting consecutive games and numerous opportunities for teams to equalize and overturn outcomes. The final against Japan was the perfect display of the high level of competition, with Indonesia and Japan closely matched until the very end.
In the first game, Japan managed to equalize against Indonesia, breathing new life into the team. However, the match ultimately went to sudden death penalties, where Indonesia won after a tense series of saves. Indonesia secured their victory in extra time of the second game, eliminating the need for a third match and bidding farewell to Japan.
From the Indian squad, Charanjot Singh, who has also played in FIFAe competitions representing his national team, stood out by scoring the opening goal against Uzbekistan.
The Lebanese trio, consisting of Imad El Zein, Nasim El Douski, and Ali Makki, represented their country, demonstrating the widespread enthusiasm within the digital football scene.
The overall scorer of the group stage was Saudi Arabia, with 20 goals that earned them a place all the way to the semi finals where they got eliminated by Japan.
The Islamic Republic of Iran had the biggest number of goals within the group stage, winning 8-1 in their first game against the United Arab Emirates.
Although Kyrgiz Republic gave a hard time throughout the group stage, they were the only team with all lost games.

The AFC eAsian Cup was the inaugural edition of the Asian Football Confederation in the esports world. The competition mirrored the format and team distribution of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ which started on 12 January and ends in 10 February 2024.
