VBL Club Championship 2024-25

The VBL Club Championship powered by WOW kicked off the 2024-25 season on 22 and 23 October. This season features 35 teams and the excitement of offline matches. Teams from the North-West and South-East divisions compete until 22-23 March, when the finals are held.

Preußen Münster and SSV Ulm are making their debut in the VBL Club Championship, while Jahn Regensburg returns after a hiatus. On the flip side, VfL Osnabrück, F.C. Hansa Rostock, and SV Wehen Wiesbaden have exited the competition following their relegations.

Structure of the competition

This season continues with a league format (35 teams divided into two groups) followed by Playoffs and a Grand Final held on 23 March.

League

Teams will now compete in a single series within their divisions, eliminating the two-legged matches of previous seasons while keeping the best-of-3 match structure.

Each team plays only one match per matchday, making it through 17 game weeks. These matches take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Playoffs

The top two teams from each division automatically qualify for the Finals Group Stage. Teams ranked 3rd to 8th in each division enter the Playoffs, where these 12 teams compete for the remaining 6 spots in the Finals Group Stage.

Finals Group Stage (Day 1)

The 6 teams that advance from the Club Playoffs join the 4 teams that qualified directly (top two from each division), forming a total of 10 teams. These teams are divided into two groups, each playing a single round-robin format with 5 rounds per team. At the end of this stage, the top two teams from each of these final groups advance directly to the Finals, while two additional teams move forward to an Intermediate Round for a chance to secure the last two spots at the semi finals.

Finals

The grand final is set for 22-23 March 2025, with four teams playing for victory.

Prize pool

The prize pool for this tournament is of EUR 87'500 in prize money and the prestigious German Club Champion title at stake.
