Following a historic finale last year, where Indonesia emerged as the undisputed World Champion, represented by BINONGBOYS, SHNKS-ELGA & akbarpaudie, the stage is now set for the return of one of the most prestigious international competition in football esports — the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console. Taking place in Riyadh in December, the competition will be one of the three pinnacle events of the FIFAe Finals 2025.

Twelve of the world’s most competitive nations will go head-to-head for glory, pride, and a chance to etch their names into history. Only one nation will claim the ultimate title. As national rivalries reignite and new challengers rise, FIFAe returns with the same high-intensity format — and a few new twists.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Road to the FIFAe World Cup™

The road to the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console begins with nations identifying their representatives through various selection processes. This includes Domestic Trials, Bootcamps and the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ Challenger Series – an open competition for fans of football and eFootball™, where standout participants may earn a chance to be shortlisted by their Member Association for the National Team Selection. From there, nations participate in the FIFAe Regional Online Qualifiers, aiming to secure their place on the global stage at the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console.

National Team Selection

To select their representatives, nations can choose from and one of the following pathways – or in a suitable combination of them:

  • Bootcamps: Closed selection camps for top-performing talent.

  • Domestic Trials: Trials open to all with an optional invitation to well-established players in the National community.

  • Direct Nominations: For nations with established duos ready to represent on the global stage.

A minimum of two and a maximum of six players can be nominated for the MA’s Extended National Squad.

MAs may consider a range of factors beyond in-game performance when finalizing their national team nominations. These can include how individuals represent their country under pressure, their communication skills, conduct in interviews, and overall professionalism – much like the expectations placed on athletes in traditional football.

The complete list of participating nations will be revealed in August.

FIFAe World Cup 2025™ Challenger Series

TheFIFAe World Cup 2025™ Challenger Series is the reworked in-game activation by Konami™ within eFootball™ Console during the 2025 season. The series includes three distinct rounds, and players who complete them will be ranked on a leaderboard.

  • Round 1 AI Battle: July 31 – August 6

  • Round 2 PvP Battle: July 31 – August 6

  • Round 3 Ranking: August 8 – August 10

This leaderboard can give MAs an additional data-driven way to identify high-performing players within the community, to support their selection process.

Regional Online Qualifiers

In the latter half of September, after all nations have nominated their National Squad, participating nations will compete in Regional Online Qualifiers, spread across the globe. Teams will face off in a 2v2 format, with each matchup featuring two-player national teams working together to secure victory for their nation. MAs will nominate two players from their National Squad for each matchup.

In the Regional Online Qualifiers, nations will compete against others within their region to secure a spot at the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console. The exact dates and the qualification spots for each region will be announced in due course.

As a new feature, all participants will use the ‘Dream Team’ squad-building format. This ensures that every national team creates their squad from the same starting point, promoting creativity and strategic thinking. Stay tuned for more exciting information about the squad building format and the implementation of Dream Team!

After the conclusion of the Regional Online Qualifiers, each qualified MA must nominate their final 2 players with a dedicated coach to represent their nation at the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console. 11 nations will qualify to the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console to join the host nation.

The FIFAe World Cup 2025™ featuring eFootball™ Console

After the regional online qualifiers, the qualified 11 nations across all regions will join the host nation to compete for global supremacy at the FIFAe World Cup 2025 Featuring eFootball™ Console. This 2v2 competition will feature a group stage and a knockout stage, with a total of 12 national teams:

  • 11 teams qualifying through Regional Online Qualifiers

  • Saudi Arabia as the host nation automatically seeded into the pinnacle event

As in the Regional Online Qualifiers, all nations will use the ‘Dream Team’ squad-building format ensuring the same conditions for everyone.

Group Stage

The 12 qualified nations will be split into two groups of six. Within each group, nations will play in Best-of-1 (Bo1) matches in a double round-robin format, resulting in a total of 10 matches played per team. The top four nations from each group advance to the knockout stage with points awarded based on the result, following the points system commonly used in traditional football.

  • Win = 3 points

  • Draw = 1 point

  • Loss = 0 points

Knockout Stage

The knockout stage sees the top eight nations from the group stage battling in a single elimination format, where they play two games per match, with an aggregated score. If aggregate scores are level, a third match with Golden Goal rules will decide the winner.

The stakes are higher than ever as the losers will bid farewell to the competition. Only one nation can emerge victorious!
